Steve Austin News Haul - Feb. 22, 2011

Some news reports are a few weeks old, but most are fairly recent.

Hangar 14 News

Steve Austin recently completed filming on Hangar 14, which features former UFC talent Keith Jardine in a supporting role. The movie centers on Los Angeles Police Department Swat Team members fighting two rival gangs in a three-way affair while trapped inside an abandoned hanger with nothing but blanks in their guns.

A Rock and Austin Rivalry Coming Soon?

Sources inside WWE hinted on Friday that tentative plans have been drawn up for The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin to appear together in the ring at WrestleMania 27 in Atlanta. Despite having already headlined three WrestleMania's together, the WWE Universe has been buzzing about a potential Rock and Austin confrontation given that both men have returned to the company in the past thirty days.

As it stands, however, The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin will not have a phsyical altercation. Instead, ideas are being toyed with that involve both men somehow "laying the smack down" on WWE CEO Vince McMahon.

Last Monday, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson returned to WWE programming on Monday Night Raw for the first time in seven years.

Only three weeks earlier, Stone Cold Steve Austin was announced as the new host of WWE Tough Enough, which premieres April 4th, the night after WrestleMania 27.

On Tuesday, Stone Cold Steve Austin tweeted: “it was great to see The Rock back on RAW tonight…helluva promo from an electrifying cat. great stuff heading into Mania.”

Steve Austin will all but certainly be on hand for WrestleMania 27 in Atlanta, Georgia if for no other reason that to promote the following night's premiere of WWE Tough Enough. And we already know that The Rock will be in Atlanta serving as the official host of WrestleMania 27. So while there are facts rather than rumors dictating the latest speculation that Austin and The Rock will be paired for an in-ring segment at WrestleMania, it still isn't clear exactly how the segment will unfold and what it will involve.

One thing is for certain, however. An electrifying and unforgettable WrestleMania moment is likely in the works.

Please weigh in with a thought or comment below regarding a possible friendly reunion between Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock.

JR Blog's on Austin Hosting "Tough Enough"

On Steve Austin Hosting Tough Enough: "Steve Austin is very excited about hosting the new season of Tough Enough. It will be interesting to see how much star power and expertise is put in place when the training staff is announced. My instincts say that Austin will have a strong team to help him with the trainees. This will be a great opportunity for Stone Cold to be Stone Cold and to re-engage his many fans on a weekly TV series of which I have great expectations for and will be watching and DVR'ing every week. I do not know the status of Tough Enough airing outside the USA for those that are asking."

JR Blog's: Austin & The Rock in WWE PG Era

I missed this JR blog entry from November 2, 2010:

Great talents such as Steve Austin and the Rock would have been ultra successful today in the PG land of WWE as they were in TV14 days during the Attitude Era. Prime time players are able to adapt to their audience and the rules of engagement. For anyone to think that the Attitude Era alone made Austin and Rock stars is naive and misguided. Can you imagine the buzz that the 'Texas Rattlesnake' and the 'Great One' would create if they were performing in WWE today? No one would notice the TV program rating I can assure you. Same goes for Shawn Michaels, among others, who had/have 'it' no matter the generation. Some e-mailers are over thinking this matter but over thinking things in the world of pro wrestling isn't a revelation nowadays either. How would you like to have any one of the three, aforementioned men booked at WM27?

JR Blog's, Mentions Austin - October 22, 2010

Source: JrsBarBQ.com

Got a great call earlier this week from Shawn Michaels and we spent some time catching up on a variety of things. HBK is happy, healthy and not missing the wrestling business at this time. Shawn is busy working on a hunting show for the Outdoor Life Network, I think, that will likely begin airing next year. We discussed some upcoming hunts and yours truly night actually go on one of these taped hunts somewhere down the road. I might be better suited to be the camp 'cook' as my hunting skills aren't at the level of say a Brock Lesnar, Steve Austin, or Dusty Rhodes. But the 'camp fire' talk would be entertaining.

Speaking of Austin, some fans have emailed me and adamantly feel that the ideal match for the Undertaker to have at WM30 would be Austin vs. Taker. WM30?? Sounds provocative on paper but it's not going to happen. I'm much more interested in who Taker is going to face at WM27 which appears to be a wide open matter. Steve will generally always say the old wrestler cliché of "Never say never" when asked about another match but no one would be more shocked than me to ever see Austin don his tights again. What does he have left to prove plus Austin is well on his way to establishing himself in Hollywood as an action adventure movie star. Plus, would you really want Stone Cold to return to Wrestlemania and lose because the smart money is on Taker NEVER losing a Wrestlemania bout? And never means never.

JR Blogs: Austin as Villain - 10/10/10

Source: JRsBarBQ.com

Speaking of 'bottom lines' an emailer took me to task when I said that Steve Austin's turn to become a villain was, in hindsight, ill conceived. Why? Well, it didn't work, plain and simple. I thought it was akin to making John Wayne a Nazi after seeing how it all played out and again that's looking at something ala a Monday morning quarterback when one's vision is 20/20.

JR Blog's About Austin Returning to the Ring

Source: JR's Blog

Saw where the UK Sun interviewed Steve Austin about another of Steve's movies being released eminently. Again, when Austin said "never say never" regarding him returning to the ring one can surmise that is true as long as Steve is healthy enough to want to train to get back into the ring but I would be shocked to see Steve ever want to wrestle anyone at anytime at any place in the future. Could it happen? Sure. Will it happen? Highly unlikely. Let the rumors begin and the speculation run wild, BROTHER! Steve is immersed in is movie career and to get back into the ring would take time away from that endeavor as Austin would never step back in the ring without several weeks or perhaps even months of preparation. Stone Cold has too much pride to ever step in the ring merely for a pay day and not to give his fans a helluva bout.

JR Blog's: September 29, 2010

Got a cool phone call from Stone Cold Steve Austin yesterday and we talked a little about my stent procedure but mostly about this weekend's football games. Steve has always been a valued friend even in the most challenging of times since we've known each other. I always know that I can count on Steve Austin when the chips are down in any scenario. Steve is entertaining the prospects of a couple of kick ass scripts for upcoming films and is really building a solid body of film work.

Brief Re-cap of Cauliflower Alley Club 2010 Event + Photos

Source: Slam Wrestling

LAS VEGAS - For more than 30 years, Jim Ross has been calling slobberknockers. On Tuesday, he delivered one of his one. The veteran announcer, whose Oklahoma twang represents the sound of the sport to a generation of fans, had a packed house at the annual Cauliflower Alley Club banquet hanging on his every word, as he accepted Art Abrams Lifetime Achievement Award.

Comparing himself to past Art Abrams winners such as Dan Gable and Danny Hodge, he joked: "I feel like a pair of brown shoes at a formal wedding ... This is a really neat honor."

Ross’ stemwinder, which ranged from the ribald to the serious, was one of the highlights of the banquet, which capped the club’s three-day reunion at the Gold Coast Hotel and Casino.

He was introduced by "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, who credited Ross’ commentary with helping him to hit the heights of wrestling in the 1990s.

"When you’ve got a gut like 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, full of piss and vinegar, and you can make people feel sorry for him because he’s being screwed by the boss, that’s a hell of an accomplishment," Austin said.

JR Confirms That Steve Austin WILL Attend CAC Banquet

Source: JRsBarBQ.com

Confirmed today in a blog post by JR:

Steve Austin confirmed with me today that he would be in Las Vegas on April 21 to introduce me at the Cauliflower Alley Club's 45th Annual Banquet where I will receive the Art Abrams Lifetime Achievement Award. For Steve to make time for the CAC and for me is extraordinarily special considering that he is working overtime promoting 'Damage' on DVD and preparing to promote his June DVD release entitled 'Stranger.' Steve couldn't be busier but he's excited about CAC and being there on a special night for me. One of the great benefits of being a part of the wrestling business are the relationships one has the opportunity to make and my friendship with Steve and his family is special.

Be sure to head over to JR's blog or his Twitter to congratulate him on his award!!!

JR Blogs About Austin - 04/08/2010

Source: JRsBBQ.com

Steve Austin is trying to adjust his schedule to attend the CAC Banquet on April 21 in Vegas. Nothing is firmed up but I personally and sincerely appreciate Steve for doing all he can to try and make the banquet when he is staying as busy as a fruit merchant. Have you bought "Damage" yet on DVD? If you like kick ass, action adventure films and want to see Stone Cold in some awesome fight scenes, then get the DVD. Many of you have written us and expressed how much you enjoyed it as did we.

Austin News Haul

Source: ProWrestling.net
Ross on Steve Austin: "I talked with Steve this weekend and he was really excited about being back on Raw and feeling that live audience, adrenaline rush that one experiences. I cannot name any wrestler who better connected with their audience than did Stone Cold Steve Austin and I've seen a few in my day. I even think Steve was going down from LA to San Diego on Sunday, he's still old school, to be ready to rock the house Monday night. Obviously, WWE will be promoting the film 'Damage' starring Stone Cold that will be out on DVD on March 23 which is only 8 days from now."

Source: PWTorch.com

Tonight's WWE Raw guest host "Stone Cold" Steve Austin said in an interview tonight that he's not sure if he'll be at WrestleMania 26 this year, but he hopes to be at the Hall of Fame.

Austin will be on a publicity tour this week and next week promoting the DVD release of his "Damage" movie that could cause a scheduling conflict on being involved in WrestleMania.

"You know, I don't even know if I'm going to be there. I'm still working on that at least being at the Hall of Fame," Austin said on the Fight Show radio show tonight. "I was so proud to go into the Hall of Fame myself. I'm doing a swing (promoting "Damage") through L.A., New York, Philadelphia, and Harvard for a day."

Austin was asked about his role tonight on Raw and Austin joked that he can't stun everyone in the ring, but he should be involved in some fun angles being part of the show again after being away for a while.

"It's going to be interesting going on Monday Night Raw tonight. I haven't been around for a while," Austin said. "We're about that two-week countdown heading to WrestleMania. It's not like I can go out and stun the whole crew. (laughs) They're building matches and everything's coming to a head. I'm just looking forward to being in front of the crowd and saying hello."

At the end of the interview, Austin was asked about TNA competing against WWE on Monday nights. Austin said he doesn't think TNA, or any other promotion, will be able to compete against WWE, but it gives wrestlers another place to work.

"Competition is great for the wrestling business. I don't know if we'll ever re-create that Nitro-Raw War. They kicked our ass for two years, then we smoked their ass and never looked back and put 'em out of business," Austin said. "I wish the TNA people all the luck in the world because it means more of the boys have jobs and it gives fans an alternative. I don't think anyone will ever come close to really giving true competition to WWE because they're so far ahead of the game, they're rooted in their system, and they're a winner. I wish TNA all the luck in the world, but it's a totally different product."

JR Blogs: Austin Promotes Damage on Lopez Show, Harvard University NLO Induction

Source: JR's Blog

Talked to Steve Austin briefly Monday via phone. He's out promoting "Damage" which will be released and available for you to purchase on March 23. We'll head to Wal Mart for our copy, most likely. Steve is on the George Lopez Show tonight (Tuesday) on TBS.

Steve will be getting an induction into Harvard University's National Lampoon Organization. Randy Savage and John Wayne, for the record, are also honorary members.

Steve will be in Boston for the Harvard function and I hear that there may be a Stone Cold Beer Party in the works in conjunction with the festivities. This is a fun honor for Steve and the Beer Party should be a hoot. Yes, the real Stone Cold is Tweeting at steveaustinBSR.

Congrats Steve!!!

JR blogs about Austin hosting RAW!

JR's Blog

JR blogged about Steve Austin's "return" to RAW yesterday (1/12/2010):

As we speculated here, it seems, at least according to the INTERNET, that Steve Austin will return to Raw as the Guest Host in March in advance of WM26 and to promote the DVD release of his film entitled "Damage." I assume this info is accurate but I have not talked to Steve about it but if it is true then it will be a good thing for Monday Night Raw and for Stone Cold which results in the desired win/win . We've already received some emails here asking if I would be a part of that particular Raw and my answer is a simple, non complicated, Gorilla Monsoon-esque, "Highly Unlikely." Some fans are already busy producing the proposed Stone Cold Raw with me included which is drastically premature and high speculative. I will admit that mid March will likely be an interesting time for me on a professional basis. Steve and I have a great relationship and a long history together on WWE TV but he has his agenda and I have mine and the two don't necessarily include the other at every turn in the road. That's not a complaint but it's simply real life.

JR Blog's Again About Rock & Austin Guest Hosting RAW

Source: JR's Blog & PWTorch.com

Jim Ross said on jrsbarbq.com today that he was under the impression that "The Rock" Dwayne Johnson would guest-host an episode of Raw in January, but scheduling conflicts "eliminated that opportunity."

Johnson's "Toothfairy" movie comes out this month, which would have been the promotional tie-in for Johnson to guest-host. The movie has been advertised during commercials breaks throughout WWE TV episodes the past two weeks.

Johnson said two months ago that he was working on a TV project with WWE
beyond just a one-week appearance on Raw to guest-host. Johnson has yet to provide an update on the status of the project.

Ross also said he "assumes" Steve Austin will guest-host an upcoming episode
of Raw, possibly in March to help promote WrestleMania 26. Austin's "Damage" DVD comes out in March, which would be the promotional tie-in.

Jim Ross Talks Steve Austin and The Rock Possibly Guest-Hosting RAW

Source: PWTorch.com, JR's Blog

WWE announcer Jim Ross offered his commentary on last night's Raw after skipping last week's unmentionable effort and updated his health related to returning to WWE TV in a new blog today on jrsbarbq.com.

Ross suggested Steve Austin and "The Rock" Dwayne Johnson could be in line for future guest hosting roles following Bret Hart's footsteps.

"I don't have an answer to that question but I do feel that both men will eventually return to Raw in either the guest G.M. capacity or another role that provides them a "one off' opportunity to entertain their fans and to promote what it is that they are involved...likely their films," Ross said.

Johnson said several weeks ago he was working on a project with WWE beyond just guest-hosting an episode of Raw, but Johnson hasn't added new information since the interview.

Jim Ross Blogs About Steve Austin Today

Today Jim Ross blogged about Steve Austin:

"Heard from Steve Austin this week and had to give him a football update as Steve and crew are really working hard trying to finish his current film in the cold, outdoor environment of Vancouver by Christmas. Apparently, this film is particularly physically demanding and has a provocative, action adventure plot."

JR Blogs About Steve Austin Returning to TNA...

Source: JR's Official blog

Sunday, November 30, JR said this reguarding some of the questions he was recieving from fans:

On Steve Austin

Steve Austin: "Will Steve Austin ever go to TNA? That's a question for Steve but my educated guess would be no. I don't think Steve has any intention of ever wrestling again as he focuses on his movie career which is both time consuming and challenging for the 'new guy.' Steve is and always will, be a fan of the wrestling business but he's building a body of work in the movie business and has been involved in, I think, 3 or 4 productions this year alone which is a helluva, challenging schedule."

JR Blog's About Steve Austin Filming in Vancouver

Jim Ross (JR) blogged yesterday about Monday Night RAW's 3 hour show, and also wrote about Steve Austin filming in Vancouver!

JR wrote:

" Got an email today from Steve Austin who is in Vancouver and started filming another kick ass film Monday morning. Steve will be finished before Christmas and then will eventually migrate down to Texas to his ranch to hunt deer and to kick back a while. Mrs J.R. and I plan on visiting Steve some time in January. "
