News Haul - November 07, 2010 - "H2K" Review, WWE Rep Comments on Austin Rumor

A Review: "Hunt To Kill" A Good Role for Stone Cold
[Source: Slam! Wrestling]

It seems over the past year, that a month hasn't gone by without a new Steve Austin movie being released. The former WWE star has had a very busy 2010, showing massive dedication to his new found profession and he seems to be on a mission to become a major headline star in the movie industry.

In his new film, Hunt to Kill, Austin plays Jim Rhodes, a Border Patrol agent who keeps watch over the mountains of Montana. When Jim's teenage daughter Kim (Marie Avgeropoulos) is kidnapped by evil crook Banks (Gil Bellows) and his motley crew it is upto Jim to ensure his daughter's safety.

He decides to help the crooks navigate their way through the treacherous mountains and forest in order to find Lawson (Michael Hogan), the man who double crossed the gang, stealing millions from them.

The story itself is a decent enough affair as Jim eventually turns against the gang and starts to pursue his own personal game of cat and mouse, hunting down the criminals. Yeah, okay, the story may be a little clichéd and not very original but it is a fun movie to watch and is definitely Austin's best effort to date.

However there are some really silly, over the top moments in this film that had me in fits of laughter, one in particular near the end of the film where, no matter what Rhodes does to try and kill Banks, he keeps rising from the dead; you'll never look at a quad bike the same way again.

While over the top at times it has to be said that Hunt to Kill was thoroughly entertaining throughout and a really good watch.

It seems Austin has found what seems to be the perfect character for him to portray, as it is a well known fact that the former WWE Champion enjoys the outdoor life, enjoys hunting and with this in mind it really does translate through the screen that is the role he has fit into easiest.

His rugged appeal shines and because the film is set in a remote location this helps create tension, the action scenes progress slowly but nicely, helping build the ending up to fever pitch.

Austin seems to have learned a lot from his past movies, he looks to be growing and developing in his role as a leading man. Showing more screen presence with every movie.

Hunt to Kill offers everything an action movie fan could want, with lots of good fight scenes and a decent storyline which offers plenty of thrills and spills.

Wrestling fans and action movie enthusiasts alike will enjoy this in equal measure and should definitely gives this film a go.

Regarding Jeff The Drunk’s claim on The Howard Stern Show that he and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin would appear as guest celebrities on the Dec. 27 Raw in Albany, NY, a WWE representative told the Wrestling Globe Newsletter, “I think this is one of the reasons why Stern calls him Jeff The Drunk”.

News Haul: JR Blog's on Austin Returning to RAW & Radio Appearance

JR Blog's About Austin [Source: JRsBarBQ.com]

To the best of my knowledge, Steve Austin has not been officially scheduled to appear on an upcoming Raw as has been reported elsewhere. Steve is preparing to film another movie in Vancouver soon that will take him into December. At that time I assume he will head to his Texas ranch for some R&R and to celebrate the holidays. Jan and I hope to visit Steve and his crew at the Broken Skull Ranch in late December or early January. BTW Steve's latest movie 'Hunt to Kill' is out next week on DVD and it's a cool, kick ass movie that I really enjoyed. I think that you will too especially if you like to see Stone Cold kick the bad guy's butt. Good storyline/script that makes for some stout action/adventure.

Radio Appearance [Source: RingsideRadio.com]
Stone Cold Steve Austin will be on Ringside Radio at 11 AM Tuesday, Nov. 9 to discuss his new movie, "Hunt To Kill" (which comes out the same day!) among many other topics. If you miss it, don't worry! An encore of the interview will run on Wednesday. You can listen to it on www.blogtalkradio.com/ringsideradio.

Austin To Return to RAW December 27th?

Source: PWTorch.com

It was revealed on this morning's Howard Stern radio show that WWE Hall of Famer "Stone Cold" Steve Austin is scheduled for a guest starring role on the December 27 episode of Raw.

During a segment featuring Eric "The Midget" Actor and Jeff "The Drunk," Jeff revealed that WWE booked him for a bit with Austin drinking beer.

Jeff added that he's not sure what exactly he will be doing, but he's supposed to be in a "couple of segments."

Howard Stern then transitioned into talking about Linda McMahon "wasting $50 million" on her failed Senate campaign in Connecticut. Stern joked WWE must have money to burn.

The Dec. 27 Raw to finish 2010 will be held in Albany, N.Y. The Times-Union Center is advertising a four-way WWE Title match of Randy Orton vs. John Cena vs. Wade Barrett vs. Sheamus.

Earlier this year, Austin guest-hosted the March 13 Raw two weeks prior to Shawn Michaels's retirement episode.

WWE has not officially announced Austin for the Dec. 27 Raw.

Austin Comments on CM Punk

CM Punk gave RAW 900th episode viewers one hell of a segment on Monday Night RAW. Making jokes about The Rock, John Cena, and Steve Austin.

Here is what Steve Austin had to say about CM Punk's performance from his Twitter account:

"Got a lot of reports of CM Punk using my ring music and calling me out...I enjoy his work and wish him the best. Go get em kid."

JR Reflects on RAW 900th Episode & RAW (Austin) Memories

Source: JR's Blog

The guttural, intense heat generated with the Austin-McMahon rivalry. It made stars of both Stone Cold, the anti hero, Mr. McMahon, the antagonist, and helped make RAW the Monday night TV destination for millions. For my money, RAW never had a better rivalry than Austin-McMahon.

I remember some great comedy...Rock 'n Sock...Austin/Angle/McMahon...DX...among others...and I remember the head shakers. I'm not casting stones as I uttered my share of head shakers on Monday nights, too.

I miss JR on RAW. How about you?

RAW's 900th Episode Special + Twitter Trend

Tonight is WWE's RAW 900th Episode Celebration! Below are some details of the show + other information & features. And a new Twitter trend I want to start...

It’s the longest-running weekly episodic television series in U.S. history. It has brought iconic Superstars such as Bret "Hit Man" Hart, Shawn Michaels, “Stone Cold" Steve Austin, The Rock and John Cena into millions of homes each week. And on Aug. 30, 2010, it celebrates an unprecedented sports-entertainment milestone – its historic 900th episode.

Now airing in more than 145 countries and reaching half a billion households worldwide, few would imagine that Monday Night Raw came from humble beginnings, emanating from a small New York City theater when it debuted on Jan. 11, 1993. But through its explosive combination of high-octane action, memorable matches, shocking moments and sensational Superstars, Raw has remained Monday night’s most exciting show throughout its 17-and-a-half year history.

To help offer some perspective on how much ground Raw has covered, WWE.com offers up the following (semi) scientifically-calculated facts and figures regarding what 900 episodes works out to. Drag your mouse over the image below to find out all the numbers, and be sure to tune in to the monumental 900th episode of Raw – featuring Superstars from both Raw and SmackDown – on Monday, Aug. 30, at 9/8 CT.

Check out some memorable RAW moments in photos featuring Austin - Part 1 & Part 2

Back on March 15, 2010, Austin was special guest host for the Vince McMahon/Bret Hart Wrestlemania 26 contract signing. In case you missed it, go to WWE.com for more details, or check out the video re-cap that is here on the website.

WWEShop.com also has some great RAW DVD's, including their newest RAW DVD, "RAW: The Beginning - The Best of Seasons 1 & 2.

Relive the first two years of Raw with this 4-DVD set packed with more than 11 hours of matches and highlights featuring Bret "Hit Man" Hart, The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels and more!

Expect to see some great & memorable Austin moments tonight. I am sure Austin will NOT be making an appearance. He's currently headed to Texas, unless it's a pre-recorded message (which I doubt). He Tweeted last week to a fan on Twitter that he will not be there.

What are you favorite Austin RAW moments? Let's start a Twitter trend: #SteveAustinRAWMoments (other hashtags: #SteveAustinWeb #RAW #RAW900 #WWE)

JR Blog's About RAW GM

JR wrote a blog post in his blog about the speculation of Austin being the secret RAW general manager. Here's what he had to say:

We had dinner Friday night with Stone Cold and he never mentioned the RAW GM biz and if he had perhaps I would have tried harder to buy dinner as a means of trying to get back on the air on Monday nights. (That was humor so "Lighten Up, Francis.") I have no clue as to who will end up being revealed as the RAW GM but I'm enjoying the mystery. I think' that when its finally revealed that we will all likely be surprised, perhaps shocked, and it might not be who many of us have on our own list of viable candidates. I have received many emails asking who the secret GM is and I can't answer that question. Even if I knew, conclusively, why would anyone want me to spill the beans and spoil the surprise?

Austin as Possible Anonymous GM of RAW? Not Likely...

Last night WWE decided to play a little trick on it's viewers (especially us Steve Austin fans!). Giving us false hope to believe that our favorite beer guzzling, mud hole stumper was to return as general manager by using some of his well-known catchphrases such as "... and that's the bottom line, because the GM says so." and "If you want to see some action, gimme a Hell Yeah!".

Last night via Twitter Austin tweeted:

"Busy all day folks...working on a project to be shot in Vancouver in a few weeks....more details later...gonna hit the hay..good night".

JR's last blog post blog even backs this up.

And regarding RAW...

"I missed it but it sounds like It was an interesting RAW".

So, obviously from all of that, he's NOT the general manager. Sorry, as bad as we want it to be, it's not.

WWE has all rights to use Austin's catchphrases because they technically own the name "Stone Cold Steve Austin" and everything that goes with it.

BUT there is a great possibility that The Rock could be it (there's some hope there! He hasn't been guest host yet, and he did talk about doing something fun with the show at the beginning of the year - so this could be it!).

The BleacherReport.com has a great article on the whole thing.

Speculations: Steve Austin to Host RAW Again!?

Source LordsOfPain.net

There's speculation that WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin may return to guest host RAW a second time this Summer. Austin is featured in a new movie, The Expendables, with several big names from Hollywood. Sources say they wouldn't be surprised if WWE capitalized on promotion for the movie and brought Austin back for another round of hosting.

What Vince McMahon Didn't Know...

Source: PWInsider.com

Stone Cold Steve Austin was on Loveline (Dr. Drew Pinsky's nationally syndicated radio program) last night, promoting the release of Damage. He was on for the full 2 hours but he only discussed wrestling briefly.

When a caller asked him about his experience hosting RAW this week he said that it was a little weird trying to do his character in a PG world and that Vince was unaware that Austin would be drinking beer in the ring (though Stone Cold didn't know that until after he did it).

Stone Cold participated in answering a number of odd "love" related questions but he did not discuss his personal life in any detail. I'm fairly certain that the show was broadcast live last night west of Colorado, but radio stations east of Colorado that air Loveline will broadcast Stone Cold's appearance tonight (generally that is how Loveline works).

All in all, Stone Cold was pretty entertaining, but it was quite obvious during the discussion that his wrestling days are over and he is focused now on acting (not that anyone reading the site should be surprised by that). When asked if he will be ever returning to the ring, he basically said never say never, but he feel that it is extremely unlikely.

Austin News Haul

Source: ProWrestling.net
Ross on Steve Austin: "I talked with Steve this weekend and he was really excited about being back on Raw and feeling that live audience, adrenaline rush that one experiences. I cannot name any wrestler who better connected with their audience than did Stone Cold Steve Austin and I've seen a few in my day. I even think Steve was going down from LA to San Diego on Sunday, he's still old school, to be ready to rock the house Monday night. Obviously, WWE will be promoting the film 'Damage' starring Stone Cold that will be out on DVD on March 23 which is only 8 days from now."

Source: PWTorch.com

Tonight's WWE Raw guest host "Stone Cold" Steve Austin said in an interview tonight that he's not sure if he'll be at WrestleMania 26 this year, but he hopes to be at the Hall of Fame.

Austin will be on a publicity tour this week and next week promoting the DVD release of his "Damage" movie that could cause a scheduling conflict on being involved in WrestleMania.

"You know, I don't even know if I'm going to be there. I'm still working on that at least being at the Hall of Fame," Austin said on the Fight Show radio show tonight. "I was so proud to go into the Hall of Fame myself. I'm doing a swing (promoting "Damage") through L.A., New York, Philadelphia, and Harvard for a day."

Austin was asked about his role tonight on Raw and Austin joked that he can't stun everyone in the ring, but he should be involved in some fun angles being part of the show again after being away for a while.

"It's going to be interesting going on Monday Night Raw tonight. I haven't been around for a while," Austin said. "We're about that two-week countdown heading to WrestleMania. It's not like I can go out and stun the whole crew. (laughs) They're building matches and everything's coming to a head. I'm just looking forward to being in front of the crowd and saying hello."

At the end of the interview, Austin was asked about TNA competing against WWE on Monday nights. Austin said he doesn't think TNA, or any other promotion, will be able to compete against WWE, but it gives wrestlers another place to work.

"Competition is great for the wrestling business. I don't know if we'll ever re-create that Nitro-Raw War. They kicked our ass for two years, then we smoked their ass and never looked back and put 'em out of business," Austin said. "I wish the TNA people all the luck in the world because it means more of the boys have jobs and it gives fans an alternative. I don't think anyone will ever come close to really giving true competition to WWE because they're so far ahead of the game, they're rooted in their system, and they're a winner. I wish TNA all the luck in the world, but it's a totally different product."

Austin To Help Hart on RAW?

Source: ImpactWrestling.com via Wrestling Observer newsletter.

There is talk of using Natalya and David Hart Smith with Bret Hart in the induction for the late Stu Hart at this year's WWE Hall of Fame ceremony. Natalya and Smith would likely do an introduction with Bret doing the acceptance speech.

It remains to be seen how WWE will put Stu into the Hall of Fame, storyline-wise with Vince McMahon being against Bret Hart right now. The feeling is that Steve Austin will somehow be the one to put Stu into the Hall when he hosts RAW in a few weeks.
